Firefighters Told To Take Down Pro-Police Flag From Fire Truck, Social Media
Firefighters in Riverside County were ordered to take down a pro-law enforcement flag from one of their engines following the killing of several police officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge, according to reports.  In a statement released to the Press-Enterprise, Hawkins said officials were concerned because the flag “did not fit the department's standards”.  He also was quoted as saying the flag could place firefighters and paramedics at risk “due to extremists targeting the fire engine or for people following the fire engine and not being able to see the warning lights”.

‘We Have to Stop Killing One Another,' The Game Says in Video With LAPD Chief Beck
The unexpected alliance between Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck and rapper the Game continued Wednesday as the pair released a public service announcement aimed at quelling violence across the city. The 48-second clip — the first, the LAPD said, in a series of anti-violence videos involving public figures — was the latest signal of an ongoing partnership between the police chief and the Compton rapper, a coalition born out of an impromptu meeting at police headquarters this month.

Black Lives Matter protester rejects Oakland police's offer to BBQ together
Oakland Police Department invited local Black Lives Matter protesters to partake in a similar-minded barbecue like the one in Wichita. KTVU's Henry Lee spoke with Karissa Lewis, a self-described “black-liberal farmer” and protester with Black Lives Matter. She was asked if she would accept the OPD's offer. Her answer: “Barbecue's aren't going to stop the brutality that black folks are facing. A barbecue is definitely not going to stop this blockade. And as a radical-black farmer from East Oakland— I eat pigs, I don't eat with them."

Dozens of people attend Memorial service for police dog ‘Credo,' fatally shot while trying to stop knife-wielding man
A memorial service was held Wednesday for a Long Beach police dog who was fatally shot while working to apprehend a knife-wielding suspect who was also killed in the gunfire. Credo, a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois, was killed June 28 as police were trying to arrest a suspect wanted in connection with a December 2014 gang- related shooting. Credo had been with the department for about two years.

Family Separated By Mother's Cancer Looking For Fundraising Help
Over the last year and a half, 18-year-old Ariel Carmona, a full-time college student, has been learning to support his 13-year-old sister and terminally ill mother. Over the last six years their mother has battled cancer which now has spread to her lymph nodes, brain and organs. She's says even though she shouldn't be alive today, she continues to fight to spend one more day with her children.  Family responsibilities and heartache weighed heavily on Ariel when in a chance encounter, LAPD officer Ken Lew spotted the young man, crying in his car.  Lew is trying to get the word out that this family desperately needs help in order to be together again in their mother's final days.

Man Arrested in Fatal Stabbing in Pacoima Driveway
Police made an arrest in the fatal stabbing of a man in Pacoima early Wednesday morning, police said. The stabbing was reported just after midnight near the intersection of La Rue Street and Tamarack Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The victim was transported to a hospital where he died, police said. Witnesses said they did not hear words exchanged before the attack.

Build Better LA Affordable Housing Initiative Dividing LA Residents The Build Better LA (BBLA) initiative is meant to create more jobs for local union workers and build more affordable housing, but some residents are not on board.  The residents of L.A. that are opposed to BBLA are afraid of eviction. They believe that BBLA will replace their apartments with mega developments.  Elizabeth Blaney of the L.A. Tenants Union said that she does not support the demolition of rent-controlled housing. Initially it sounds very good, but when you look at it, there's all kinds of problems, according to Blaney.

Long Beach Water Sample Tests Clean After Sewage Spill, Official Says; 2nd Test Needed Before Reopening Beaches
Long Beach official said Wednesday morning the first test of the city's ocean water following a sewage spill has come back clean. Health department manager Nelson Kerr says the sample taken Tuesday shows no excessive levels of bacteria. Officials will wait for the results of a second test from Wednesday before they decide to reopen beaches to swimmers. Kerr says the clean sample suggests sewage from Monday's burst pipe 20 miles upriver in Los Angeles didn't make it to Long Beach.

Little Tokyo mall sues Metro over downtown subway project
The owners of a pedestrian mall in Little Tokyo sued the L.A. County Metropolitan Transportation Authority and two major construction companies on Wednesday afternoon, seeking an immediate halt to work on a $1.5-billion subway project in the area. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, says Metro and its contractor plan to inject a concrete-like substance into the soil beneath the Japanese Village shopping mall without securing the necessary property rights.
