Fingerprinting Safety Risk?
The decision by the Los Angeles Police Department to eliminate fingerprint evidence collection on property crimes has sparked concern by some including the Los Angeles Police Protective League, the union that represents the LAPD rank and file officers. In a letter to the City Council's Public Safety Committee, the LAPPL wrote, " we might as well hand our house and car keys over to the criminals." The Committee's Chair, Councilmember Mitch Englander stated that most violent crimes occur by criminals who started out with lesser crimes. Capturing the fingerprints from lesser crimes earlier can help catch violent criminals at a later time.

2 Women, 1 Man Shot in San Pedro: LAPD
Three victims were all shot in the leg Sunday in San Pedro, police said. The three individuals, two women and one man, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, LAPD Lt. Helen Pallares said. The crime occurred near the intersection of West 1st and North Beacon streets, according to Pallares.She said she could not confirm whether police were following a suspect.

Employee fatally shot in robbery at North Hollywood liquor store
An employee at a liquor store in North Hollywood was shot and killed during a robbery at the business, a police sergeant said Sunday. Officers were dispatched at 11:50 p.m. Saturday to the liquor store in the area of Sherman Way and Bellaire Avenue in response to robbery and assault with a deadly weapon calls, according to Sgt. Tom Holder of the LAPD's North Hollywood station.

Double Shooting Leaves 2 Possible Suspects Wounded Near Cal State Northridge, LAPD Says
Two people were shot and wounded Sunday morning near the Cal State Northridge campus, authorities said, and police were searching for a third person in connection with the incident. The shootings were reported at about 8 a.m. in the 9800 block of Zelzah Avenue, according to Officer Norma Eisenman of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section, adding that the two wounded individuals were also possible suspects.

Man found dead in Hollywood Hills home of Canadian TV personality
The man found dead in the home of Canadian TV talk- show host George Stroumboulopoulos was identified Saturday in Canadian and U.S. media reports as 41-year-old actor Richard Hong. The coroner's office would not confirm the victim's identity because next of kin had not been notified, said coroner's Lt. David Smith.

LAPD Searching for Thieves After 72-Year-Old Woman Robbed on Video in Panorama City
Los Angeles police are investigating on Friday after a 72-year-old woman was robbed at an ATM in Panorama City. The woman was withdrawing money from an ATM in the 8200 block of Woodman Avenue around 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 4 when she was approached by two people. The alleged thieves, one man and one woman, are seen on surveillance video posted to the LAPD YouTube page, talking with the victim and appearing to assist her with the ATM transaction.

3 Suspects In Custody After Police Pursue Stolen Car In West LA
The LAPD chased a stolen car suspect in and around West LA Saturday evening. The chase began about 10:30 p.m., authorities said. It ended about 11:10 p.m. with a foot bail. The car — believed to be a blue Toyota Corolla — allegedly had three people in it. The driver made several U-turns in the area and didn't deviate from the West LA area.

Man found with stab wounds in South LA
A man was stabbed Saturday in South Los Angeles, police said. Officers received a call about a single-victim stabbing at 2:55 a.m. near the intersection of 94th Street and Stanford Avenue, according to Sgt. Matthew Vuoso. A man, believed to be in the 18 to 25 age range, was found lying in the street suffering from a stab wound, Vuoso said.

1 wounded in Boyle Heights shooting
A man was wounded by gunfire Saturday in Boyle Heights, police said. The shooting was reported at 1:25 a.m. at 158 S. Pecan St., according to Sgt. J Covarrubias of the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollenbeck Division. Responding officers found the victim, approximately 45 years old, with a single gunshot wound to the chest lying on the street. He was transported to a hospital and his condition was not immediately available, Covarrubias said.

Loyola Marymount Seeks Help Identifying Person of Interest in Campus Sexual Assault Case
Officials at Loyola Marymount University on Friday asked for the public's help in identifying a person interest in a sexual assault case. The assault happened on campus Sept. 18, between 6 and 8 p.m. at the school's William H. Hannon Library, the college's Department of Public Safety said. Authorities said they have exhausted efforts to pursue leads and examine surveillance footage and are seeking any details available about the male shown in surveillance footage.

Under pressure from union, L.A. County makes it easier for probation workers with discipline problems to get promotions
More than 50 employees working inside Los Angeles County's juvenile lockups received promotions despite a history of disciplinary problems or criminal arrests under a deal county leaders quietly cut earlier this year. The workers had previously been denied promotion for actions ranging from mistreatment of children in custody to off-duty drunk driving.

The 20-year-old man suspected of killing five people with a rifle at a Macy's makeup counter was described by a neighbor as so "creepy, rude and obnoxious" that she kept a Taser by her front door. LA Council approves $50K reward for Camp Pendleton Marine's killer
The Los Angeles City Council approved a $50,000 reward offer Friday for information leading to the person who fatally shot a 19- year-old Marine in South Los Angeles. Lance Cpl. Carlos Segovia-Lopez was found shortly after 11:30 p.m. last Friday covered in blood and slumped over the steering wheel of a Dodge Charger in the 2100 block of 31st Street, according to Los Angeles police and witnesses. He was taken off life support Monday after doctors informed the family he could not be saved.

LA audit seeks more revenue from city's SoCalGas franchise agreement
A new audit questions whether the city of Los Angeles is charging Southern California Gas Company enough money to do business in Los Angeles. The audit, released Friday by Los Angeles City Controller Ron Galperin, examines the city's franchise agreement with SoCalGas. It found the utility pays the city about $17.6 million annually for the right to transport gas to Los Angeles customers via pipes buried under city streets.
