Woman Dies In Highland Park Shooting; Gunman Sought
A woman died Wednesday after succumbing to injuries she sustained in a shooting at a Highland Park intersection. Authorities said the shooting happened at the intersection of Avenue 54 and Monte Vista Street around 11 a.m. They said a man shot the woman once It was unclear if the shooting was gang related or if the woman was targeted.

Man shot, killed at Los Angeles High Memorial Park
A man was gunned down at Los Angeles High Memorial Park in the Mid-City area early Wednesday. The fatal shooting occurred about 3:30 a.m. near the 4600 block of West Olympic Boulevard, according to Los Angeles police. Officers from the LAPD's Wilshire Division responded to a “shots fired” call in the park and found the man on the ground, unresponsive and unconscious, with gunshot wounds.

Burglar who pointed gun at dog in El Sereno home sought
Authorities Thursday were seeking a burglar who forced his way into an El Sereno home and pointed a gun at a dog that confronted him inside the residence. The suspect — a man between 25 and 35 years old — entered the home in the 4900 block of Twining Street on Dec. 21 and took unspecified property, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Ore. trooper critically wounded in shooting on 'good trajectory'
The Oregon State Police trooper injured in a Christmas Day shooting had his third surgery Wednesday morning and remains in critical condition, police officials said. Trooper Nic Cederberg's latest operation went as expected and he's "on a good trajectory considering the trauma he suffered," state police officials said in a Facebook post.

With hundreds of thousands of people expected along Monday's 5 1/2-mile Rose Parade route, law enforcement agencies "cannot do it alone" when it comes to security and anti-terrorism efforts, officials said Wednesday. DMV licensed 800,000 undocumented immigrants under 2-year-old law
Two years after the implementation of AB 60 on Jan. 1, 2015, an estimated 806,000 undocumented residents have received driver's licenses, according to Department of Motor Vehicles statistics this month. About 14,000 of these licenses were issued in November alone, the DMV said.

But this week, the device grabbed headlines for another reason: Police in Arkansas are trying to use its data in a murder investigation. As the police were investigating the crime, they found a number of digital devices in the suspect's house, including an Amazon Echo device that was in the kitchen. They have since seized the device and have apparently gotten some information from it, but what they want to check is what — if anything — the device may have recorded around the time of the murder.

"There has been an increase in the total number," says Seth Stoughton, a former cop who is now an assistant professor of law at the University of South Carolina. Stoughton been tracking premeditated murders of law enforcement officers — what he calls police assassinations — and he says the number of police killed like this jumped from five or six last year, to somewhere in the neighborhood of eight to 12, this year.
