A Dangerous Time To Serve ?
The year 2016 was a deadly and dangerous year for American police officers, yet there were no mass protests or marches or kneeling to bring attention to the tragedies faced by these fallen public servants and their families. The number of American police officers murdered while on duty skyrocketed 61% over 2015, and 14% more police officers were assaulted compared to the previous year. These disturbing increases were contained in the FBI's 2016 Law Enforcement Officers Killed & Assaulted report.

Alabama Cop Killer 'Defiant' Before His Execution ?
A convicted cop killer who sued Alabama over its lethal injection method was put to death, but not before he cursed at the state and said: "I hate you." As the procedure began Thursday night, Torrey Twane McNabb, 40, raised both of his middle fingers in a show of defiance. McNabb's attorneys had unsuccessfully sought to stop the execution since he was one of several inmates in an ongoing lawsuit challenging the humaneness of the state's lethal injection procedure.

Pacoima Woman Pleads No Contest To Second-Degree Murder In LAPD Motorcycle Officer's Death ?
A Pacoima woman who was under the influence of cocaine when she crashed her SUV into an LAPD motorcycle officer, who had dedicated his career to taking drunken drivers off the road, pleaded no contest today to second-degree murder. Qaneak Shaney Cobb, 37, is facing a 15-year-to-life prison term when she returns to a Van Nuys courtroom for sentencing Oct. 30, according to Deputy District Attorney Garrett Dameron.

Driver In Custody After High-Speed Chase In San Fernando Valley ?
A driver armed with a gun was taken into custody Thursday night following a brief pursuit that started on freeways near the San Fernando Valley. The chase made its way to the northbound 101 Freeway in Van Nuys before it continued on the 405 Freeway at Sherman Way. The driver was a man with a gun, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Man Barricades Himself Nearly 4 Hours In Sylmar Home ?
A SWAT team surrounded a Sylmar-area home Thursday where a knife-wielding man in his mid- to late-30s holed up for nearly four hours following a domestic dispute, authorities said. Officers went to the 14600 block of Nurmi Street shortly before 11 a.m. on a domestic dispute call and learned that the man was armed with a knife and was inside the residence, Los Angeles police said.

Couple Accused Of Sex Crimes At South L.A. School Arrested In Florida After 17 Years On The Run
?A couple who founded a Crenshaw private school and fled after authorities charged them with 13 sex crimes against minors was arrested by Florida and Los Angeles police Wednesday after 17 years on the run. Joseph Green, a 52-year-old registered sex offender, and Chanell Warren, his 43-year-old wife, were arrested at 6 a.m. Wednesday at a home in Plantation, a city in the Miami metropolitan area, said Det. Robert Rettig of the Plantation Police Department.

LAPD Investigating Harvey Weinstein For Alleged 2013 Sexual Assault ?
Los Angeles police confirmed on Wednesday that they are conducting a criminal investigation into a woman's claim she was raped by film producer Harvey Weinstein, who has been accused by dozens of women of sexual harassment or assault. "The Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery-Homicide Division has interviewed a potential sexual assault victim involving Harvey Weinstein which allegedly occurred in 2013," LAPD Officer Tony Im said.

Authorities Searching For Arsonist After Series Of Fires In North Hollywood ?
Los Angeles police and fire personnel are searching for an arsonist after three separate fires were started in North Hollywood on Thursday. Authorities were called to the 5900 block of Carpenter Avenue around 5 a.m. after reports of a Cypress tree and vehicle on fire. Firefighters were soon called to two separate tree and auto fires in the 5900 block of Irvine Street and on Beck Avenue between Collins Street and Hatteras Street, officials said.

Nationwide FBI Sex-Trafficking Crackdown Nets 120 Arrests; 84 Underage Victims Rescued ?
A nationwide crackdown on underage sex trafficking has resulted in 120 arrests, and the rescue of 84 underage victims, the FBI announced recently. It was called Operation Cross Country, and was conducted from October 12th through the 15th. The Los Angeles office of the FBI announced 8 juveniles rescued in their territory. In the Inland Empire specifically, two juveniles were rescued, three female adult victims were rescued, two pimps were arrested, eleven prostitutes were arrested, and four people were arrested on suspicion of soliciting prostitution.

?Last year, California's Legislature and voters enacted a veritable blizzard of legislation making private gun ownership more difficult and expensive, including new restrictions on magazine capacity and ammunition sales. Gov. Jerry Brown rejected some of the anti-gun bills sent to his desk.

A system designed to send emergency alerts to your mobile phone is getting even more scrutiny from two of California's most powerful politicians. Questions are being raised about why it was not used during the deadly fires in Northern California that has now claimed 42 lives. The alerts use cell towers to reach mobile phone users, targeting those in the area where an event is happening.

Playa Del Rey Traffic Lane Reductions End: They're Coming Back! ?
Responding to public backlash, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and City Councilman Mike Bonin announced Wednesday that all the remaining traffic lanes that were removed in Playa del Rey will be restored. The city recently restored some lanes in the neighborhood, but all that were removed on Culver Boulevard, Jefferson Boulevard and Pershing Drive will now also be brought back into the traffic grid.
