Shootout Critically Wounds San Francisco Officer, Suspect
A San Francisco police officer and a suspect were both critically wounded in a Halloween night gunbattle in a popular neighborhood for holiday celebrations, officials said Wednesday. Shots erupted when the 41-year-old officer approached a parked car in the city's Castro neighborhood to check on reports of a suspicious vehicle, San Francisco police Sgt. Michael Andraychak said.

Carjacking Suspect In Custody After Standoff In Sylmar Cul-De-Sac
Los Angeles police have taken into custody a carjacking suspect on a cul-de-sac in the area of Norris Avenue and Excelsior Street in Sylmar following a pursuit. No one was injured and the suspect is expected to be booked for grand theft auto, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Mike Lopez.

Sexual Predator Prowling In South LA, 3 Women Attacked
Police Wednesday sought the public's help in identifying a suspect who sexually assaulted three women in separate attacks in South Los Angeles. The crimes occurred in May, August and September, after the suspect picked the victims up in his vehicle in the area of Western Avenue and 51st Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

An Encino home owned by Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig was burglarized Wednesday evening  on the same night as the devastating World Series  loss to the Houston Astros. Los Angeles police responded to the home after a burglary alarm went off and found a smashed window and items taken, authorities said.

?A family was seeking information Wednesday about a 21-year-old man who went missing last week from Sun Valley. Vincent Tyler Marcelo Babudro was last seen about 9 p.m. on Thursday in the 8900 block of Helen Avenue and hasn't been heard from since. Babudro is white, 6-feet tall, 130 pounds with brow hair and eyes.

Authorities are looking for a hit-and-run driver who allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian Tuesday night in Chatsworth before leaving the scene. The crime was reported at 9 p.m. Tuesday after a white sedan entered a driveway in the 20600 block of Lassen Street and struck a 66-year-old man from Chatsworth, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Man, 32, Pleads No Contest To Raping Woman Inside Van Nuys Beauty Salon
Authorities said a 32-year-old man pleaded no contest Wednesday to sexually assaulting a beauty salon worker as she closed up shop last year. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced Enrique Orozco entered his plea to one count each of assault with the intent to commit rape, forcible rape and dissuading a witness by threat of force. Orozco was immediately sentenced to 20 years to life in state prison.

77-Year-Old Man Pleads Guilty To Murdering His Wife Inside Their San Pedro Home
A San Pedro man has pleaded guilty to murdering his wife inside their home two years ago, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office said Wednesday. George Matsumoto, 77, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder in the 2015 slaying of his wife, Mary, the DA's office said. He faces 19 years to life in state prison.

A Quarter Of Chicago's Crime Guns Were Sold By Just Ten Dealers
A small number of gun stores located in suburban Illinois and neighboring states, like Indiana, are responsible for selling a disproportionate number of guns used to commit crimes in the city of Chicago, a report released on Sunday said. The city's second Gun Trace Report, based on trace data from 2013 to 2016, found that 10 gun stores accounted for almost 25 percent of the roughly 15,000 crime guns recovered by the Chicago Police Department (CPD).

California violates freedom of speech by requiring antiabortion “crisis pregnancy centers” to tell patients that the state makes abortions available at little or no cost, a Riverside County judge has ruled, reopening debate over a law that federal courts had upheld. The law, sponsored by Assemblyman David Chiu, D-San Francisco, took effect last year.

Homeless Would Be Hired To Pick Up Trash In LA Under Proposed Program
The city of Los Angeles is looking at a pilot program that would employ homeless people to clean trash from streets, sidewalks and alleys. The city says it receives some 200 requests a day about dumping and trash nuisances. Sometimes city employees are diverted from more complex projects to respond to clean up trash, officials say.

The City Council Wednesday directed the Los Angeles Police Department to study ways to improve safety measures for the observation deck at City Hall. On Sept. 11, a distraught man triggered a significant response from the city's police and fire departments when he climbed over the railing of the observation deck and sat on an edge of the building.
