LAPD Union Calls For ‘Urgent Action' On Hepatitis A Vaccines After Officer Contracts Virus
A Los Angeles police union says there's an urgent need to acquire Hepatitis A vaccines for more than 1,000 Los Angeles police officers – a need brought into sharp focus after an officer recently contracted the virus that causes liver disease and inflammation. Craig Lally, president of the Los Angeles Police Protective League, wrote a letter to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday asking for “urgent action to ensure the safety of the approximately 1,600 police officers identified by the LAPD who are most at risk of being exposed to Hepatitis A due to their work assignment.

LAPD Officers Coming In Contact With Homeless Fear Contracting Hepatitis A
In the middle of an outbreak of hepatitis A, members of the Los Angeles Police Department say they are in danger. The union representing members of the LAPD say the needs of the department aren't being met. They were told only 100 vaccinations could be made available to the LAPD. The Los Angeles Police Protective League, the union representing LAPD officers, says they were told they could only get 100 vaccines for their members. "We have already had one confirmed exposure in Central Area, and one is too many," said Mark Cronin, the LAPPL director.

New Jersey Officer Shot Point Blank, Suspect Arrested
A New Jersey police officer is in stable condition after he was shot in the thigh at point-blank range while trying to apprehend a suspect in Camden. Camden County police say the officer approached three people who were acting suspiciously just after 10 p.m. Wednesday when one ran away.

An off-duty police officer in Florida was killed after his pickup truck flipped over and hit a tree early Thursday morning. The Orlando Sentinel reports that Officer Josh Calverley, 29, was driving on a highway when he lost control of his truck and went onto the median.

A driver was hospitalized and a hit-and-run suspect was being sought after a high-speed crash Wednesday night left a car overturned at an intersection in Hollywood, authorities said. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the collision occurred shortly before midnight at the intersection of Western Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard.

Van Nuys Man Identified As Victim In Valley Glen Shooting
A man fatally shot in Valley Glen on Sunday was identified, authorities said on Thursday. Hovanef Papazyan, 73, of Van Nuys, was pronounced dead at 11:37 a.m. Sunday at a local hospital, said Brian Elias of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds, Elias said.

Man Wounded After Shooting At Sheriff's Deputies In Compton
Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies have shot and wounded a man who fired at them before a brief standoff. The Sheriff's Department says on Twitter that the threat was "neutralized" and the suspect was shot after the standoff Wednesday afternoon in Compton. They said the suspect was being treated for his wounds.

An armed Los Angeles man was taken into custody after he forced a woman into her car, ran for police and sat in his vehicle with the woman, refusing to give up Thursday evening, Pomona police officials said. Rashad Shell, 19, was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and weapons violations, according to a police press release.

The federal agency that regulates firearms says that the city of Chicago crossed a line by issuing a report providing granular detail about guns used in crimes, including the names of stores that have sold a disproportionate share of those weapons. The Chicago Trace Report , released on Sunday, runs “contrary to federal law,” Mary Markos, a spokesperson for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said in an email, and constitutes “a prohibited use of the data.”
