'They Are Damn Lies': LAPD Chief Lashes Out After Captain Accuses Department Of Phony Crime Statistics
Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck forcefully denied Tuesday that his department had falsified violent crime statistics and dismissed the allegation by a captain that the LAPD misled the public as "not only untrue, but outrageous." “They are not only lies, but they are damn lies,” Beck said of the allegations. The union, which represents rank-and-file officers, also rebuked Beck. “Chief Beck doth protest too much,” the Los Angeles Police Protective League said in a statement. “It's time for transparency and honesty to be the foundation of our department, not cooking the books to fool our elected officials and the public."

LAPD To Get Hepatitis A Vaccines, Under County Plan
Los Angeles County Supervisors voted unanimously on a motion that will ensure first responders to get the hepatitis A vaccine. Officers are most at risk of being exposed, with one officer saying that every day out in certain locations it is potentially hazardous. "We offer free vaccinations at all 14 of our clinics," said health director Barbara Ferrer. "We have provided well over 3,500 doses of vaccine at this point to first responders. A lot has gone to the county. We're working right now to set up with LAPD four clinics.""They are hearing us they are listening and that they are coming forward with a plan of action to vaccinate," Mark Cronin, the director of the Los Angeles Police Protective League, the union.

WVEC reports that the Portsmouth officer got out of surgery and is in stable condition after being shot multiple times. Police took the 15-year-old male suspect into custody a short time after the s hooting.

Man Charged In Collision That Led To South Carolina Trooper's Death
The Simpsonville man involved in a traffic collision that resulted in the death of a South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper has been charged with a crime by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office Monday. Tuan Quoc Trinh, 33, has been charged with Failure to Maintain Lane, according to multiple reports that said he fell asleep before the collision.

South Park Shooting Victim Identified: Killer Still A Mystery
A man who was fatally shot in the South Park area of Los Angeles was identified Tuesday, but his killer remained at large. Hector Martin, 31, of Los Angeles died at the scene of the shooting, which occurred about 6:30 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of West 57th Street, according to the coroner's office and the Los Angeles Police Department.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused a greater-alarm blaze that ripped through a church in Van Nuys Monday night. The fire was reported at The Church On The Way in the 14300 block of Sherman Way at 6:06 p.m. Los Angeles Fire Department crews arrived to find heavy flames coming from the two-story building.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors previewed part of its approach to marijuana regulation Tuesday and raised the possibility that it may seek to impose more restrictions on alcohol sales.
