Texas Border Patrol Agent Killed In Apparent Attack
Authorities were scouring West Texas on Monday for those behind an apparent attack that killed one U.S. border agent and injured another. U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued a statement Sunday that was thin on details about what happened, saying the two agents "were responding to activity" while on patrol near Interstate 10.

Man Accused Of Shooting Rookie Pennsylvania Officer Arrested
The man accused of fatally shooting a rookie police officer in western Pennsylvania was taken into custody Tuesday, the state police said. Details of the arrest of 29-year-old Rahmael Sal Holt were not immediately released. A news conference was planned for later Tuesday.

Man Gets 6 Years In Prison For Attacking Huntington Beach Officer
A Huntington Beach man has been sentenced to six years in state prison for beating an on-duty police officer last year, the Orange County district attorney's office said. Darryl Keith Headrick, 60, pleaded guilty Friday to one felony count of aggravated assault on a peace officer and one misdemeanor count of resisting and obstructing an officer.

LAPD Reduces Front-Desk Hours At Valley, South LA Stations, Shifts Officers To Street
The Los Angeles Police Department is doing away with around-the-clock front-desk hours, aiming to put more officers into the field to respond to calls. Starting Friday, Dec. 1, a pair of stations in the San Fernando Valley — Devonshire and West Valley — and the Southeast and Southwest stations in South Los Angeles shift from a 24-hour front-desk schedule to a 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. schedule, LAPD officials announced. Tom Saggau, a spokesman for the police union, said there is “no debate” that Los Angeles “needs more police officers on the street” and that the “limited station closures are intended to put more officers on patrol in these neighborhoods.”

Most of the victims were black men, though the neighborhood's population of about 12,000 is roughly one-third black and two-thirds Latino. The area around Harvard Park was the deadliest place for African Americans in Los Angeles County last year, according to the Times' Homicide Report.

Man Wanted For Sexual Battery Arrested In Hollywood, Officer Injured During Foot Pursuit
An officer who chased a man wanted for sexual battery was hospitalized Monday after he injured his leg when he climbed a fence during a foot pursuit in Hollywood, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Two women reportedly flagged down officers around 9:30 p.m. alleging a man groped one of their breasts near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Gower Street, prompting the foot pursuit.

Woman's Body Found Inside Tent In Van Nuys
The body of a woman was found in Van Nuys Monday morning, Los Angeles police said. The woman's body was found inside a tent near Sepulveda Boulevard and Albers Street, authorities said. The body was reported to emergency personnel around 9:45 a.m.

Attacker Sought In Car-To-Car Shooting That Led To Wendy's Restaurant Crash
Authorities are searching for the gunman who opened fire on a driver before the 18-year-old victim crashed into a Wendy's restaurant in Panorama City. Alexis Saldana later died at a hospital, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

A takeover Robbery occurred at a pharmacy located on the 11600 block of Wilshire Boulevard. Armed suspects entered the pharmacy, hopped over the counter and ordered one of the employee to the floor.

San Pedro Man Accused Of Making Death Threats In Racist Voicemail To U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters
A San Pedro man threatened to kill U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters in a voicemail filled with racist and anti-gay slurs after he became angered over her criticisms of President Trump, according to court documents. Anthony Scott Lloyd, 44, was indicted late last week on a charge of threatening to kill Waters in a voicemail left at her Washington, D.C., office last month, prosecutors said.

Man, 58, Sentenced To 50 Years To Life For Raping, Torturing Skid Row Woman For Months
Authorities said a 58-year-old man who raped and tortured a Skid Row woman for months, has been sentenced to 50 years to life. The repeated rapes and beatings took place inside the man's apartment, the LA County District Attorney said. Chris Harris was sentenced Thursday by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Edmund Clarke Jr.

California's shift to legal sales of marijuana for recreational use hits a milestone Monday when the state begins issuing tax permits to marijuana distributors. State regulators estimate the California market could eventually generate $1 billion in taxes and fees annually. But the industry has resisted handing over its share of profits to the state treasury, and the pressure is on to reduce delinquencies and force scofflaws to pay up.

Chicago Passes 600 Homicides For Only Third Time Since 2003
Chicago has surpassed 600 homicides for the second year in a row and for only the third time since 2003, according to data kept by the Tribune. As of early Monday, the city has recorded at least 609 homicides. That trails the 711 homicides this time last year but far exceeds previous years. In 2015, the city had recorded 443 homicides by the weekend of Nov. 22. In 2014, it was 400.

Drugs Made In Mexican ‘Superlabs' Are More Potent Than Ever, Fueling Addiction Epidemic In U.S.
Ten years ago, the average gram of meth available in the U.S. was 39% pure. Today, it is being sold in a nearly pure state, manufactured in Mexican “superlabs” and smuggled across the border to feed an epidemic of addiction. The drug is being peddled alongside fentanyl, a synthetic opioid 50 times stronger than heroin, and carfentanil, an elephant tranquilizer that can kill a human with just a speck or two.

A Los Angeles City Council committee approved several proposed ordinances and regulations for the cannabis industry Monday in an effort to have all of the city's policies on the books ahead of the drug becoming legal for recreational purposes on Jan. 1. The items approved by the Rules, Elections and Intergovernmental Relations Committee outline proposed rules on licensing, operating a cannabis business and where they are allowed to be located.
