Police: Slain Baltimore Detective Shot Day Before Grand Jury Testimony
A Baltimore detective killed by a gunman last week was slain a day before he was set to testify in a corruption probe into activities of indicted officers, the city's police commissioner confirmed Wednesday. Commissioner Kevin Davis announced the news to reporters a week after the detective was shot in the head in a West Baltimore vacant lot.

Michigan Deputy Killed During Police Pursuit
An Oakland County Sheriff's deputy has been killed when he was struck by a vehicle that was being pursued by police. Authorities say that Deputy Eric Overall was outside his squad car shortly after midnight on Thursday preparing to deploy what are called “stop sticks” designed to deflate vehicles' tires at an intersection in Brandon Township when he was struck by the fleeing suspect's vehicle.

Man Visiting Mom's Home In Arleta Shot Dead On Thanksgiving
A 26-year-old man was shot to death at his mother's home in Arleta on Thanksgiving, and his killer remains at large. Los Angeles police received a report about an assault with a deadly weapon at the 14200 block of Gager Street around 8:20 p.m.

Mother Killed, Toddler Hospitalized After Being Struck By Suspected DUI Driver In North Hills
A mother is dead and a child is in the hospital after they were struck by a suspected drunk driver in the North Hills area Sunday night, according to Los Angeles police. The crash occurred just after 10 p.m. in the 8800 block of Woodley Avenue. The victim and her toddler were believed to be right in front of their home when the driver, traveling northbound on Woodley, crashed into several parked cars and struck them.

Never before has the department received so many sexual assault allegations involving high-profile figures at one time, including many complex cases that are years old with multiple alleged victims, officials say.

Shots Possibly Fired At Officers During South LA Pursuit
One person was taken into custody Wednesday after shots were possibly fired at officers pursuing a vehicle in South Los Angeles. Gunfire was reported about 2:50 p.m. in the area of Slauson Avenue and San Pedro Street, according to Los Angeles police. No officers were injured but one suspect was taken into custody, police said.

Woman Shot In South L.A. While Driving Is In Critical Condition
A woman shot while she was driving in South Los Angeles Friday night has been listed in critical condition, Los Angeles Police Department officials said. The woman, only described as being in her 30s, was shot multiple times while she was driving but was able to get away in her vehicle, LAPD Sgt. Thomas Bojorquez said.

Man Injured In Possible Gang-Related Shooting In Reseda
A man was shot at least twice Friday night, Nov. 24 in Reseda in what authorities are calling a possible gang-related shooting. Around 10 p.m. there were several reports of a shooting at Saticoy Street and Tampa Avenue in a parking lot, said Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. William Batista.

LAPD Chief Beck Expects More High-Profile Reports Of Hollywood Sex Crimes
Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said he expects his department — which already is handling more than two dozen allegations of sexual misconduct by Hollywood figures — to investigate even more. “We anticipate the LAPD and other jurisdictions will receive even more high profile sex crime reports in the coming weeks and months,” Beck said in an email. “We encourage all victims of sexual assault to come forward to report these crimes.”

LAPD's 'RESET' Program Struggles To Get The Homeless Off The Streets
It's known as 'The Box'. Skid Row City Limits...a place just blocks from City Hall where more than 17,000 homeless people live on the streets in a square-shaped area just east of Main Street, south of third, west of Alameda and north of Seventh Street. A place where addicts openly use drugs and people with mental illness roam the streets.

Window-Smash Thieves Target Sherman Oaks Vehicles
More than a dozen motor vehicles were broken into on Nov. 16 in the Sherman Oaks area, and police are looking for the culprits. The crimes took place primarily “during the hours of darkness” with the majority occurring in the 13700 to the 14900 blocks of Ventura Boulevard, the Los Angeles Police Department said. Pace Of Executions In California May Be Up To Gov. Jerry Brown
When the California Supreme Court upheld a voter initiative in August to speed up executions, some death penalty advocates assumed lethal injections would resume before the end of the year. Three months after the court's action, both backers and opponents of the death penalty concede that executions might be more than a year away.

With more than 45,000 employees, the city of Los Angeles is one of the largest employers in Southern California. Despite its size, the city has no centralized method for tracking sexual harassment complaints lodged against its workers. Nor are managers required to report such claims to the city's Personnel Department. behavior.

Los Angeles County Officials Extend Access To Homeless Shelters Through March
Despite warm weather forecasts as the Southland heads toward Thanksgiving, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors focused on winter Tuesday, extending access to homeless shelters through the month of March. Supervisors Hilda Solis and Kathryn Barger co-authored the motion to spend $709,000 to keep as many of the county's 716 winter shelter beds as possible available for the additional month.
