Suspect In Death Of Michigan Deputy Faces First-Degree Murder Charge
A Macomb Township man, who authorities say claimed to be God, is facing a first-degree murder charge in the death of an Oakland County sheriff's deputy on Thanksgiving Day. Magistrate Marie Soma entered a not-guilty plea Saturday on behalf of Christopher Berak, 22, during a video arraignment at 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills.

LAPD Launches Paid Training Program For High School Grads Who Want To Be Cops
Eric Estrada is eagerly awaiting the day that he'll be old enough to apply to become a Los Angeles police officer. In the meantime, the 20-year-old Pacoima resident is one of more than two dozen high school graduates who will be working part-time for the Los Angeles Police Department and getting paid as part of a new program that aims to recruit and train the next generation of police officers.

Man Faces Murder Charges After Drunken Crash That Killed Mother Of 3
A North Hills family is in mourning Monday after a mother of 3 was killed while trying to protect her 2-year-old daughter from an allegedly impaired driver, right in front of their home. Police say an impaired driver slammed into six parked cars along Woodley Avenue late Sunday night , hitting 34-year-old Ruth Chinchilla, who was holding her daughter after taking her out of the car.

Man Injured After Being Attacked With Screwdriver In Hollywood; Suspect Arrested
One man suffered minor injuries when a suspect stabbed him with a screwdriver along the busy Hollywood Boulevard Wednesday night. Authorities said the incident happened inside of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The suspect left the hotel and ran out into the street, where a person was later found on the ground.

LA Convict Recaptured After Disappearing Just Months Before Release
A 24-year-old convict who walked away from a re-entry program in Los Angeles was back in custody Wednesday, authorities said. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials were searching for Jessie Barraza after they were alerted about 8:10 p.m. Tuesday that his GPS device had been removed while out on an approved pass, authorities said.

City Attorney Cracks Down On 'Gang' Apartments
The owners and managers of a Baldwin Village apartment complex that is an alleged stronghold for a violent street gang called the Black P-Stones are the targets of a lawsuit filed Monday by Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer. Dating back to 1996, the 425-unit Chesapeake Apartments complex at 4616 Rodeo Road in South L.A. has been the scene of hundreds of violent crimes, including homicides, shootings, rapes, drug sales, robberies, assaults, and gun possession, according to Feuer's lawsuit.

Delaware Trooper Dies Suddenly While Running With Son
Police in Delaware say a state trooper likely died from a heart attack during a run with his son on Friday. The News Journal reported Saturday that 40-year-old Sgt. Rodney H. Bond died suddenly near his home. Bond was assigned to Delaware State Police Troop 2, which is based in Newark. Medical examiners have not declared a cause of death.

Thousands Pay Respects To Pennsylvania Officer Slain During Traffic Stop
Thousands of police officers from around the country turned out to pay respects Wednesday to a rookie Pennsylvania police officer who was fatally shot during a traffic stop last week. Law enforcement officers from as far away as Colorado and Rhode Island joined students and residents lining the roads as Officer Brian Shaw's funeral procession moved through the streets of New Kensington.
