California Cop's Wife Hurt After Package Bomb Explodes At Officer's Home
A package mailed to the Alameda home of a police officer exploded and injured a woman who opened it, authorities said Tuesday, and U.S. Postal Service investigators are probing whether the incident is linked to a parcel bomb sent to an East Palo Alto residence in October. The package bomb was delivered Friday to a home on Lilac Street in the Bay Farm Island neighborhood of Alameda and the intended recipient was a police officer, said Sgt. Ray Kelly of the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.

Suspected ‘Penny-Pincher Bandit' Believed Killed After North Hollywood Pursuit
A robbery suspect was shot and killed by Los Angeles police after leading officers on a short pursuit. The Los Angeles Police Department says undercover detectives were investigating a series of robberies Thursday afternoon when they spotted a suspect possibly connected to the crimes.

A porch pirate has been caught on camera stealing packages from multiple houses in the West Hills area. Ili Ester's home surveillance system recorded a white van patrolling her neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon, shortly after a FedEx truck dropped a package off at her house.

Smash-And-Grab Robbery Causes Scare At Westfield Mall In Sherman Oaks
Police responded to an armed robbery Thursday morning at a popular shopping mall in Sherman Oaks, authorities said. The smash-and-grab incident was reported shortly after 10:25 a.m. at Westfield Fashion Square in the 14000 block of Riverside Drive, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Cellphone video captured the aftermath of a two car collision in west Los Angeles which ultimately led up to a physical brawl between the drivers, one of which fled the scene. Joe Prosceno told FOX 11 a driver crashed into him at the intersection of Ocean Park Blvd. and Bundy Drive Wednesday night around 7:30pm.

West Hollywood Sheriff's deputies believe they arrested a man captured on security video violently attacking a senior citizen in Hollywood. The Los Angeles Police Department is now coordinating with sheriff's detectives to determine if its the same suspect they've been looking for.

LA's Active Shooter Training Program For Civilians Needs Marketing Help
Hoping to help save lives in the event of a mass shooting, a Los Angeles police sergeant Thursday said the city is looking to hire a marketing firm to help promote its active shooter training program to the private sector. Sgt. Kyle Campbell of the Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Bureau helps run the program, said to be a collaboration of various city departments and some private sector partners.

New Bill Proposes Extending Bar Hours To 4 A.M. In 6 California Cities
State. Sen Scott Wiener this week announced plans to reintroduce legislation that allow bar hours in California cities to be extended 4 a.m. While a similar bill backed by Wiener to give communities across the state the option of pushing back nightlife closing times failed in September, the new measure would only apply to six California cities: Los Angeles, Long Beach, West Hollywood, San Francisco, Oakland and Sacramento.

Sessions Hints At Crack Down On Recreational Pot, Affecting California, Other States
Attorney General Jeff Sessions hinted Wednesday that the Justice Department may take a tougher stance on recreational marijuana in the near future, a change in policy that would have a significant impact on the five states that already allow the drug to be sold for more than medicinal purposes. California is scheduled to join that group on Jan. 1.

Proposition 47 Makes Stealing A Car Worth $950 Or Less A Misdemeanor Offense, Court Rules
A person convicted of a felony for stealing a car may have that conviction reduced to a misdemeanor if the vehicle was worth no more than $950, the California Supreme Court decided unanimously Thursday. The decision came in a case interpreting Proposition 47, a 2014 ballot measure that reduced felonies for certain drug and theft crimes to misdemeanors.

High above the Metro Gold Line tracks, a string of lean-tos that Lee Brown calls his “three-bedroom condominium” is tethered to a hilltop fence in Elysian Park. The four-man, two-dog tent city — one of several camps in the 600-acre park north of downtown Los Angeles — has remained intact for at least two years, passed from one homeless person to the next, Brown said.
