LAPD SWAT Vehicle Filling Up With Toys For Kids In Need
The Los Angeles Police Department got some help from the public in the mission to stuff a SWAT BEAR vehicle with toys. The SWAT team's ballistic engineered armored response vehicle, also known as BEAR, was parked at the Beverly Connection in Beverly Grove for people to fill with toys to benefit the Orthopaedic Institute for Children. The gifts are for the hospital's annual Toys and Joy holiday party. "We take care of kids regardless of their ability to pay. To do that, to be able to do what we do, we depend on private support, we depend on people making a donation; we depend on people giving to us their time, their talents and their treasures," said Mary Beth Perrine of the institute.

The entire southbound side of the 101 Freeway in Hollywood was shut down Sunday afternoon and into the night for more than five hours as Los Angeles Police Department detectives investigated a shooting between officers and a man who pulled out a handgun after jumping out of his vehicle. The southbound lanes of the freeway reopened about 9:50 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said. A SigAlert earlier was in place closing those lanes since about 4:30 p.m. Earlier, traffic was snarled on the freeway and on side streets for hours as officers directed thousands of motorists off the 101 and into nearby neighborhoods. Upcoming Rain To Cause Mudslide Risk In Burn Areas
Areas of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties that were burned by the Woolsey and Hill Fires are vulnerable to rock and mudslides with rain expected to enter the region on Wednesday, the National Weather Service says. Wildfires often leave behind terrain that has been cleared of vegetation, which make the areas prone to loose rocks and dirt during a storm. A rainstorm expected to bring between 0.25 and 1 inch of rain is forecast to arrive Wednesday afternoon. The NWS warns that mud or rockslides may result in major delays for Thanksgiving holiday travelers, particularly on Highway 1 and on canyon roads. NBC 4

Nearly 1,300 Unaccounted For And At Least 77 Dead As Search For Bodies In Camp Fire Continues
Volunteers in white coveralls, hard hats and masks poked through ash and debris Sunday, searching for the remains of victims of the devastating Northern California wildfire before rains forecast this week complicate their efforts. While the predicted downpours could help tamp down blazes that have killed 77 people so far, they also could wash away telltale fragments of bone, or turn loose, dry ash into a thick paste that would frustrate the search. A team of 10 volunteers went from burned house to burned house Sunday in the devastated town of Paradise, accompanied by a cadaver dog with a bell on its collar that jingled in the grim landscape.
