Officer Injured, Canine Partner Killed In Shootout In Tulare County
A Tulare police officer was injured and his canine partner, Bane, was fatally shot following a pursuit Sunday night. One suspect was shot and killed in the gun battle, authorities said. Another suspect was gravely injured, and a third was taken into custody, said Sgt. Jon Hamlin, a spokesman with the Tulare Police Department. The officer was shot in the arm and torso but is expected to recover. His vest protected him from more serious injuries, Hamlin said. “We're in a state of shock right now, and we're trying to process the events of tonight,” Hamlin told reporters Sunday night. The deadly encounter began about 7 p.m. when police tried to stop a vehicle with three people inside. The driver sped away, and when a police pursuit ended near Tulare Avenue and Palm Street, an officer and the trio of suspects exchanged gunfire, with Bane caught in the middle.

New Threat Of Mass Shooting At CSUN Prompts Heightened Police Presence
For the second time in less than a week, Cal State Northridge was threatened with a mass shooting, this time in the form of an expletive-filled letter making the rounds on social media Tuesday. “I am writing this to inform the people of CSUN that I will kill everyone on the 12 of December 2018,” the letter said. “I am aware that I will probably (be) shot and killed, but before that happens, I'm killing as many (expletive) as I possibly can.” CSUN Police Chief Anne Glavin said school authorities are aware of the threat, but it's too soon to determine if the threat is credible. There is no imminent threat to the school and Los Angeles police are assisting in the investigation, she said.

Chicago Police Battle Flow Of Firearms
Ke'Shon Newman's daily routine is guided by guns — the hundreds of illegal pistols, revolvers and other firearms that torment his South Side neighborhood. He walks on brightly lit streets, the ones lined with Jamaican jerk and seafood joints, minimarkets, the White Castle, a Shell gas station. If shooting erupts, he wants witnesses — and, if necessary, help. He listens to music with one earbud, to hear approaching footsteps, and avoids clothing with hoods that might block his peripheral vision. These are the rituals of a street-smart 16-year-old who knows the cruel meaning of wrong place, wrong time. His stepbrother, Randall Young, then 16, was killed in crossfire two years ago while walking his girlfriend to a bus stop.

LA Set To Extend Rules Against Sleeping In Vehicles
Los Angeles officials are poised to extend a temporary set of rules Tuesday that prohibit people from sleeping overnight in cars, RVs, and other vehicles. The policy directly affects the nearly 9,000 homeless residents who live in cars, trucks, and camper vans across the city of Los Angeles. Its prohibitions primarily apply to residential areas and parking spots near schools and parks, leaving streets in industrial and commercial areas clear for use by people living in vehicles—at least in theory. Since the ban went into effect last year, the City Council has added hundreds of streets to the list of places where spending the night in a vehicle is prohibited.
