2 Illinois Officers Wounded In Warehouse Shooting Return To Full Duty
Two Aurora police officers have returned to full duty almost nine months after they were shot during the mass shooting at Henry Pratt Co. in the city. Officer Adam Miller, 24, returned to the midnight shift Tuesday for the first time since he was shot in the face on Feb. 15. A disgruntled Pratt employee shot and killed five fellow employees that day and shot and injured five Aurora officers and another employee before he was killed in a shootout with police. As Miller was shot, he was heard over the police radio saying “I'm shot — still in the fight,” a phrase that quickly became a mantra for the department as it dealt with the aftermath of the Pratt shooting. “His resilience and fighting spirit have been an inspiration to us all,” Aurora Police Chief Kristen Ziman said.

Arrests have been made and charges filed in connection with a deadly armed robbery that took place in the San Fernando Valley in September, police announced Tuesday. Charges have been filed against Allen Asenuga, 24, and Michael Agboola, 28, for the shooting death of Jean Carlos De La Rosa, 24, according to a news release sent out by the Los Angeles Police Department. Both suspects are from Houston, Texas, police said. The shooting was the result of an armed robbery that happened about 10:40 p.m. Sept. 21 outside of an Airbnb rental in the 18200 block of Sugarman Street in Tarzana. A group had rented the house to celebrate a birthday, the property owner told KTLA. Police said De La Rosa and his friend were sitting in a car before being told to get out and hand over their belongings. That's when the men shot De La Rosa multiple times before fleeing the scene. Booking records indicate both men were arrested by LAPD's Robbery-Homicide Division on Nov. 7.

Man Walks Free After Serving 11 Years For L.A. Robberies He Didn't Do
A man who spent 11 years in prison for a series of Los Angeles armed robberies he didn't commit was exonerated Tuesday after prosecutors agreed he had been wrongly convicted. A courtroom full of family members and friends erupted in applause as Ruben Martinez Jr. was found innocent and walked free from Los Angeles Superior Court. The rare reversal of fortune after all appeals had been exhausted came about after Martinez's wife, who had been a secretary for the Sheriff's Department, and a close friend who was a retired homicide detective prevailed on prosecutors to review the case. Investigators tracked down alibi witnesses who said Martinez was at work during some of the crimes that were believed to have been committed by a serial robber. A jubilant Martinez, 49, said his prayers had been answered and that he was not a bitter man. He thanked his wife, Maria, for not only standing by him but pursuing his freedom vigorously.

L.A. County Offers $15,000 Reward In Long Beach Shooting That Left Three Dead
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a $15,000 reward Tuesday for information leading to the arrest or conviction of whoever killed three men and wounded nine other people at a Halloween-themed birthday party in Long Beach. Supervisor Janice Hahn recommended the reward, saying investigators don't know the motive for the shooting, but believe a reward could prompt reluctant witnesses to come forward. About 10:45 p.m. Oct. 29, Long Beach police responded to reports of a shooting at a home in the 2700 block of East 7th Street in the Rose Park area. Maurice Poe Jr., 25, of Long Beach; Melvin Williams II, 35, of Gardena; and Ricardo Torres, 28, of Inglewood, died at the scene. They were seven women and two men wounded, some of whom had life-threatening injuries. “The crime scene is horrific; there's blood everywhere,” Long Beach Police Department Chief Robert Luna told reporters at a briefing the next morning.

Central California Mother Charged With Murder After Delivering Stillborn Baby With Meth In Its System
A 25-year-old woman in central California has been arrested and charged with murder after she delivered a stillborn baby that authorities said had toxic levels of meth in its system. The Hanford Police Department said in a news release that Chelsea Cheyenne Becker delivered a stillborn child September 10 that medical professionals believed may have been exposed to drugs while she was pregnant. The death was ruled a homicide after an autopsy by the Kings County Coroner's Office found methamphetamine in the baby's system, police said. Police put out a warrant for Becker, and she was arrested Tuesday night on a felony charge of first-degree murder and booked into the Kings County Jail in Hanford early Wednesday, records show. Her bail has been set at $5 million. Becker pleaded not guilty at her arraignment on Wednesday morning, and a phone call to her lawyer, Robert Stover, was not returned. Court records indicate her next hearing is November 19.

As Election 2020 Kicks Into Gear, Election Chief Assures LA City Council That New Vote System Is Secure
The county's top election official assured members of the Los Angeles City Council Tuesday that the revamped voting system going into effect next year is secure. Dean Logan, county registrar-recorder/county clerk, said the new technology has security measures in place, and experts are overseeing the implementation process. “We have engaged in this design process a technical advisory committee that includes security experts, privacy experts and usability experts that have guided us,” Logan said. He said the FBI and Department of Homeland Security are also monitoring the county's voting technologies. “Where I think we have seen weaknesses in that (security) process is not in technology and systems, but it's more about the misinformation campaigns, and there was evidence of that in the elections that took place nationally last week as well,” Logan said.
