Amid Black Lives Matter's movement, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti seeks middle ground
As Los Angeles awaits Beck's decision on whether officers involved in last year's shooting death of South L.A. resident Ezell Ford should be disciplined, Garcetti's remained largely neutral. That stance draws criticism from Black Lives Matter-L.A., which contends the mayor is betraying his activist roots, but praise from the city's police union. “Mayor Garcetti has never gone out and called for an indictment and prosecution in the Ford shooting,” said police union president Craig Lally. “Because probably there was a legitimate reason for it.”
