LAPD Horse, Cowboy, Retires After 18 Years to Work With Disabled Children
Cowboy the horse, a longtime LAPD veteran, is setting off for greener pastures on Wednesday, retiring after 18 years working crowd control, crime suppression and even helping protect the President of the United States. The brown, 15 hands tall quarter-horse gelding has been working since he came to the LAPD barn at the age of 3. Since then he has earned a reputation as a noble steed, his human police counterparts say.

Drug Dealing Charges Were Pending Against UCLA Student Found Dead
Charges of possession of a controlled substances for sale had been filed two months ago against the UCLA student whose sorority identified her as the woman found dead Monday morning after a fire in the off-campus apartment she shared with sorority sisters. Andrea Lauren DelVesco's death is being investigated as a homicide, said Los Angeles Police Det. Lauren Rauch. It is expected an autopsy will be performed Thursday to determine cause of death, according to Asst. Chief Coroner Ed Winter. He said dental records were being obtained for purpose of making positive identification of the severely burned remains.

LAPD Looks For Suspect In Fatal Shooting Of 17-Year-Old
The LAPD is hoping the public can give them clues to lead the arrest of a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old. Hollenbeck Homicide detectives are looking for the person responsible for the shooting death of 17-year-old, Adrian Shije. On Sunday, around 2:05 p.m., Hollenbeck officers responded to a radio call of a shooting in the 2800 block of Barranca Street.

Drive-By Shooting Injures 3 Minors Eating At Taco Stand In South Los Angeles
Three minors were injured in a drive-by shooting in South Los Angeles Wednesday night, police said. The shooting happened in the 9400 block of South Figueroa Street at about 8:40 p.m. Several people, including the three minors, were eating at a taco stand when shots were fired from a vehicle in the direction of the stand, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. A boy and girl, both 13 years old, were hit by gunfire. A 10-year-old boy was hit by shrapnel. All three victims were last listed in stable condition.

Highland Park hit-and-run victim dies; police find vehicle but not driver
Irma Yolanda Espinoza-Lugo, the woman struck by a hit-and-run driver on Figueroa Street last Friday night, has died of her injuries. Meanwhile, police said they have recovered the vehicle involved in the fatal crash but the driver remains at large. Espinoza-Lugo, 51, died on Sunday, said Detective Michael Kaden with the LAPD Central Traffic Division. Espinoza-Lugo was walking across Figueroa Street in a crosswalk near Avenue 55 shortly before 10 p.m. when she was struck by a northbound Mitsubishi Lancer.

Police Search for Armed Man in Glendale
Police were searching for an armed man who evaded police Wednesday after he reportedly refused to leave a party in Glendale, according to the Glendale Police Department. The incident was reported around 12 a.m. in the 500 block of Alexander Street after witnesses said they told the man to leave a party after he brandished a handgun, according to the Glendale Police Department.

Man Sought After 14-Year-Old Girl Sexually Assaulted in Broad Daylight: Riverside Police
Police were searching for a man who sexually assaulted a teenage girl in the middle of the afternoon in Riverside over the weekend, authorities said Tuesday. The 14-year-old victim was walking in the area of Strong Street and Fairmount Boulevard about 3 p.m. Saturday when a man approached her from behind, according to a news release from the Riverside Police Department.

California mandates rear-facing car seats for kids till they're 2
The way young children sit in cars is about to change in California. Gov. Jerry Brown this week signed a measure that requires children younger than 2 to sit in a rear-facing child-safety seat while traveling in a vehicle. The bill, AB 53 by Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia (D-Bell Gardens), will not apply to children who weigh more than 40 pounds or are 40 inches or taller. The law goes into effect Jan. 1, 2017. Garcia and other backers say the law will protect children.
