Quentin Tarantino's Father Joins Police Unions in Condemning Director
An unlikely ally has joined the NYPD and LAPD police officers unions in condemning Quentin Tarantino for his stance on police brutality: The director's own father. In a statement given to the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association – the NYPD rank-and-file officers union – Tony Tarantino wrote, "I love my son and have great respect for him as an artist but he is dead wrong in calling police officers, particularly in New York City where I grew up, murderers."

Los Angeles Becomes Largest West Coast City to Require Safe Storage/Trigger Locks for Handguns at Home
Late last month, the Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved (14-0) a law, written and championed by Councilmember Paul Krekorian, that will require all handgun owners in Los Angeles to store their handguns in a locked container or disable them with a trigger lock when kept at home. The only time a handgun need not be stored or locked is when it is carried on the body of or within the close proximity and control of the owner or another lawfully authorized person.

LA County workers poised to get 10 percent raise, additional vacation and new paid holiday
In what one union is calling a “breakthrough contract,” Los Angeles County workers are poised to receive a 10 percent pay raise, an extra week of vacation and a new paid holiday if a tentative labor pact is approved. However, county passage is not assured. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is set to vote at its regular meeting Tuesday on pay raises for county firefighters, deputy sheriffs, criminalists, custody assistants, coroner investigators, peace officers and other groups. The agreements, which have already been ratified by those unions, include a 3 percent raise in both fiscal 2015-16 and fiscal 2016-17 and a 4 percent increase in fiscal 2017-18.
