Man Stabbed In Attempted Carjacking In West Adams-Area Of LA
A man was stabbed in an attempted carjacking in the West Adams section of Los Angeles, authorities said. Police and first responders responded to the call at the corner of Western Avenue and Adams Boulevard around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Authorities said the victim was stabbed in the back during the carjacking attempt. He was transported to the hospital in stable condition. Two suspects, believed to be men, are at large.

Man Shot, Killed Outside Louisiana Fried Chicken Restaurant
A man in his 40s died from an afternoon shooting in South Los Angeles on Saturday, authorities said. The shooting occurred around 4:45 p.m. in front of a Louisiana Fried Chicken restaurant near the intersection of Normandie Avenue and Manchester Boulevard, according to Sgt. Thomas Bojorquez of the Los Angeles Police Department's 77th Street Station. The victim was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Bojorquez said. The shooter, also a man in his 40s, fled the scene on foot, the sergeant said.

Gang Members Arrested in Connection With 5,000 Home Burglaries
More that a dozen alleged gang members were arrested in connection with 5,000 residential burglaries across five Southern California counties, authorities said Friday. "Operation Money Bags" spanned more than three years and culminated early Friday morning with raids at 28 locations, most in South Los Angeles, according to the Torrance Police Department. The raids included more than 400 officers from 18 agencies including the FBI.

Black Lives Matter gets a cool reception in some black churches known for past activism
But some black churches in Los Angeles, and the traditional African American clergy who lead them, have kept a decided distance from the new breed of activism represented by the Black Lives Matter movement.  ”We've come a long way,” Jones added. “Right now, in L.A. I would be more concerned with my grandson getting dressed to go to a party and somebody who looks like him from a different area ask him ‘What set you from?' than worrying about if police are going to kill my grandson.”

False Alarm of Active Shooter Causes Traffic Nightmare at LAX
A false alarm of an active shooter at the Los Angeles International Airport caused widespread panic and impacted traffic and flights Sunday night. People were seen running from multiple terminals at the airport after authorities said a possible noise that sounded like gunfire caused travelers to flee around 8:30 p.m. Travelers at the airport tweeted that there were shots fired in different terminals and shared videos of people rushing out of the airport and onto the tarmac.

Woman Accused Of Stabbing Boyfriend To Death In South LA
Los Angeles police have arrested a 26-year-old woman on suspicion of stabbing her boyfriend to death during an argument. Officer Tony Im says officers at the scene reported that the couple was arguing at a South LA home Saturday when the man tried to strangle the woman. Im says the woman grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the 34-year-old man several times. He died from his wounds at a hospital.

Man shot during possible robbery in Exposition Park
A man was shot Saturday afternoon, possibly during a robbery, in the Exposition Park area of Los Angeles, authorities said. It happened about 4 p.m. at 1321 West Martin Luther King Junior Blvd., Los Angeles police Officer Mike Lopez said. The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, Lopez said. The victim was taken to a hospital with stable vital signs, he said.

4 LAPD dog handlers sue City, alleging sex harassment
Four Los Angeles police dog handlers sued the city Friday, alleging they suffered a backlash for reporting the alleged sexual harassment of one of their members and complaining about being pressured to fabricate overtime claims. Officers Karolin Clarke, Elliot Zibli, Ricardo Sanchez and David Dooros filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging sex/gender harassment and retaliation. The suit seeks unspecified damages.

Witness recounts chaos on night Kid Cali died as LAPD vows crackdown
Los Angeles leaders and police say they are taking steps to clamp down on illegal house parties following the shooting death of rapper Kid Cali at a heavily promoted pool party last weekend in Granada Hills. The events are organized by promoters who charge admission fees to get into homes, often short-term rentals in posh San Fernando Valley neighborhoods. The events, which police say draw crowds from all over the Los Angeles area, including gang members, are advertised on social media and guests can buy tickets online.

San Jose officers living in RVs outside department
Officers working mandatory overtime at the San Jose Police Department have been staying in RVs outside the department during their workweeks. KPIX reports that officers who work 17-hour days, fight traffic, and commute from far towns, have resorted to staying in the mobile homes during the week and driving home on their off days. According to the TV station, the city leaders didn't know this was happening.

The Justice Department recently decided to phase out the confinement of federal inmates in private prisons, but tens of thousands of state prisoners — including 10,700 from California — will remain in the corporate-owned institutions that a government report has criticized over safety and security.

Shortly after Santa Clara County Judge Aaron Persky sentenced an ex-Stanford University swimmer to only six months in jail for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman, the victim's emotional 12-page court statement drew 13 million readers online, and a cyber-petition demanding the judge's removal garnered well over a million signatures. By Thursday night, the judge himself had been, at his own request, removed from hearing criminal cases altogether.

‘The smell is torture,' San Fernando Valley residents say of Sunshine Canyon Landfill
Six months after Stephen Beck moved into his newly built Legends at Cascades condo in Sylmar, he awoke to a noxious bedroom window invader. An overwhelming smell of garbage. “What we are talking about is stench,” said Beck, 75, who had moved into his home less than a mile from Sunshine Canyon Landfill in October 2009. “Like a pile of fruits or veggies that are rotting.”

An unlikely supervisors' race runoff launches with a Santa Clarita forum and a fight over ballot statement
In the race to replace retiring L.A. County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, a long-shot candidate is hoping to ride anti-Donald Trump sentiment to victory by playing up his Democratic Party affiliation, while his more established and better-funded opponent has tried to keep the party out of the officially nonpartisan race. Antonovich's chief of staff, Kathryn Barger, is facing off against a political newcomer, Darrell Park, a former staffer with the White House Office of Management and Budget turned entrepreneur. Park surprised most observers by beating out several better-known and better-funded candidates to make it to the runoff.
