Rep. Becerra and Sen. Kennedy
Gun Microstamping Legislation Gains Local Support

EDITOR'S NOTE: We at LACP have actively supported the concept of Gun Microstamping (and Ammunition Microstamping) for some time, and appreciate the efforts of Congressman Becerra and Senator Kennedy.  We're grateful that many local officials are now lending their support. We feel this legislation could have a significant impact in helping to solve the many serious crimes involving firearms.

LOS ANGELESRepresentative Xavier Becerra (CA-31), Assistant to the Speaker of the House, the author of the National Crime Gun Identification Act of 2008 (H.R. 5266) and a longtime proponent of microstamping, will host a press conference to explain how new technology can help investigators match a single cartridge recovered at a crime scene to the gun – and the criminal that fired it.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Police Chief William Bratton, Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles City Councilwoman Jan Perry, and Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley will all unveil their support
for the act at the press conference this Tuesday, March 18, at 2:30 p.m. PST, in front of the Newton Community Police Station.
