Preserve the Southwest Museum and Griffith Park
Take Action - write and attend the important meeting

by Kristin Sabo (parks volunteer)

EDITOR'S NOTE: For even more about the Griffith Park, Autry / Southwest Museum issues and how to become involved be sure to listen to our "Community Matters" radio show with special guest Kristin Sabo, parks volunteer.

June 26, 2009

Here is information, care of the Friends of the Southwest Museum, concerning the situation I talked about on the LACP "Community Matters" radio show Thursday.

I hope those concerned with LA's parks and particularly Griffith Park and the Audry / Southwest Museum issue will take this unique opportunity to get involved with making sure the Los Angeles City Council does the right thing!

Sincerely,

Kristin Sabo (parks volunteer)

Board of Referred Powers Special Meeting

at 3:00 PM

Los Angeles City Hall, Room 350
Board of Public Works Hearing Room
200 N Spring St, Los Angeles

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A bus will leave at 2 pm from Galco's ( 5702 York Blvd. ) Please be there a little before.
Or call 213) 485-0763 to request a parking pass at City Hall.
Or take the public transportation -- 81 bus along Figueroa/York directly to City Hall or the Gold Line.
TAKE ACTION TODAY
Here's what we need in addition to your presence (and bring a couple friends) at the meeting -- Every day between now and next Tuesday at 3pm -- call, email and fax as many times as possible to the contacts at the City Hall offices.
Tell them:
You are OPPOSED to the current proposal to expand the Autry Museum and request the Board of Referred Powers send this back to staff to better address the complete concerns of the community.
Why? Because:
1) Autry's plan violates the 2003 Merger Agreement by creating one museum instead of two. If this project is approved the City becomes a co-conspirator to this violation.
2) The Environmental Impact Report (FEIR) is flawed because it fails to adequately address the project's main purpose of moving the Southwest Museum to Griffith Park .  The FEIR cannot be certified without this proper analysis.
3) We will lose the first museum in Los Angeles, the Southwest Museum, and the Casa de Adobe with this proposed project. There must be conditions added to the Lease Amendment that prevents this unnecessary loss.
There are many other issues, but these are the main simple themes to repeat often. For those of you who have more technical background, please feel free to elaborate!
Write emails, fax, call, and come to the meeting. This is the time when your voice can make a difference!!!
Always put the “Autry Case No. 2009-02” on all correspondence.
Simply cut and past all of these emails into the message “to” line:
