  Shoes That Fit
Charity provides 100,000 paris of footwear a year to needy children

September 2010

What began in Claremont, California in 1992 as the vision of one person with a heart for children and a passion for empowerment, has turned into the largest national organization of its kind.

Today, Shoes That Fit is helping children in need in thousands of schools across America. Hundreds of thousands of new shoes and other items have been given out and that number is growing rapidly.

Accepting no government funding whatsoever, and with 100% of community donations going directly to school children through an impressive network of volunteer-run local grassroots chapters, Shoes That Fit is uniquely efficient and effective in its life-changing operations.

Most importantly, Shoes That Fit is helping kids improve their self-esteem and fit in at school by eliminating one of poverty's most visible and debilitating marks.

The mission of Shoes That Fit is to provide new shoes to children in need for school.

We believe that every child deserves shoes that fit. Our grassroots programs are working to provide children in need with new shoes that enable them to attend school in comfort and with dignity and allow them to focus on their studies rather than their circumstances. We create a simple, hands-on program that encourages volunteerism in every community.

Why shoes?

A not-so-funny thing happens at school when your shoes don't fit, or they are falling apart, or they used to belong to another member in your family – or worse, to a stranger. Suddenly all you can think of are your feet.

Who's staring at my shoes?
They're so tight, I'll have to take them off to walk home.
What if my shoe falls apart playing at recess?
What do I do when some bully teases
me and about wearing holey, smelly shoes?

Some kids don't have any shoes to wear at all. Which means they can't go to school and learn. Which means they don't have much hope for a future.

That's why Shoes That Fit has already given out hundreds of thousands of new pairs of shoes and new items of clothing. We are changing lives in thousands of schools across the country and need your help to make that number grow.

After all, new shoes provide dignity, hope, pride and self-esteem. That's an awful lot of good things in a rather small box, don't you think?
