Nov. 22, 2011 — ICE arrests 53 during enforcement operation targeting convicted criminal aliens in the Boston-area
Operation Threats Against the Community, a four-day enforcement operation, commenced Nov. 18 in and around Boston. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers arrested 53 convicted criminal aliens who had committed crimes including assault and battery of a child, sexual assault, possessing and selling dangerous drugs and drunken driving.

Nov. 22, 2011 — 2 alien smugglers sentenced to a 17-year combined sentence
ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents embarked on a human smuggling investigation after they received a call from the El Salvadorian Embassy regarding three juvenile illegal aliens who were being held hostage in Phoenix. ICE HSI special agents in Washington, D.C., working with ICE HSI agents in Phoenix, used the smugglers' cell phone records to identify where the victims were located in Phoenix. Two Mexican nationals were sentenced Monday to 10 and seven years in jail respectively for harboring and transporting illegal aliens.

Nov. 22, 2011 — Healthcare aid sentence for defrauding elderly couple
Isabel Wilson, a Liberian national, was hired as a live-in home healthcare aide for an elderly couple who suffered from dementia. Wilson used the couples' names, Social Security numbers and dates of birth to open seven credit cards in their names. She then used those cards to purchase more than $73,000 in luxury goods, including plane tickets, furniture, clothing and a down payment on a Porsche. This week, she was sentenced to four years in prison for her crimes. This sentencing stems from an investigation by ICE ERO and several federal agencies.

Nov. 21, 2011 — Program Global Shield keeps bomb-making chemicals out of terrorists' hands
Common chemicals like ammonium nitrate, also used as lawn fertilizer, can be transformed into improvised explosive devices (IEDs). IED attacks are on the rise, especially in Afghanistan, where IEDs continue to be the top killer of U.S. troops. In 2010, insurgents planted more than 14,000 IEDs – resulting in the deaths of 368 foreign soldiers and wounding more than 3,000 others. Program Global Shield is an international effort to eliminate the smuggling of chemicals used in attacks like these.

Nov. 21, 2011 — South Texas man pleads guilty to receiving child pornography
Agents from ICE Homeland Security Investigations' (HSI) Cyber-Crimes Division executed a search warrant at Donald Waters' home in Winnie, Texas. They discovered a large volume of child pornography on computers in his home, including more than 600 digital images and five videos. Waters pleaded guilty Monday to one count of receiving child pornography.
