LAPD's Beck, other law enforcement want police-tracking app disabled
Law enforcement is concerned that the popular Waze mobile traffic app by Google Inc., which provides real-time road conditions, can also be used to hunt and harm police. Waze is a combination of GPS navigation and social networking. Fifty million users in 200 countries turn to the free service for warnings about nearby congestion, car accidents, speed traps, traffic cameras, construction zones, potholes, stalled vehicles or unsafe weather conditions.

LAPD statistics illustrate the 'nature of homicide in Los Angeles'
Sunday and Monday were the deadliest days of the week in Los Angeles in 2014. April saw the most killings; January and February the least. More people were killed with a firearm than any other weapon.Those statistics and others compiled by the Los Angeles Police Department offer a deeply detailed look at the 260 homicides that occurred in Los Angeles last year. The report breaks down everything from which LAPD division saw the largest increase (77th Street in South L.A.) to where the killings occurred (streets were the most common location, followed by sidewalks).

Seeking bonds between South LA and LAPD
Congresswoman Karen Bass, from California's 37th District, flew from Capitol Hill to Ferguson, Mo. to a South Los Angeles church last Saturday to gather a flock of concerned citizens in a town hall meeting to discuss new policing reforms for better relations between community members and the Los Angeles Police Department. Two lines stretched down both sides of the church and Bass was kept an hour over schedule in order to hear every person who wanted to offer suggestions to improve police department behavior in the community.

After homeless man is set on fire, Ventura police seek witnesses
Seeking witnesses in the case of a homeless man who was set on fire this month, Ventura police are asking the public for help identifying people visible in surveillance images from that night.The two males and one female pictured "are just people that we think were in the area around that time that may have been witnesses," police Cmdr. Darin Schindler told The Times on Monday.

Man in Custody Following Standoff at Pasadena Apartment
One person was taken into custody Monday following an hours-long standoff at an apartment building in Pasadena. Police surrounded the building in the 70 block of Harkness Avenue after reports that an armed person had barricaded themselves inside one of the units.

Clerk Chases Armed Robber Out of Murrieta Store
A store clerk chased an armed robber out of a store in Murrieta on Monday.The worker decided to take a stand when he realized his masked assailant was trying to hold up the USA Gas Station on Winchester Road with a pellet gun.He challenged the man after his co-worker pointed out the robber was brandishing a non-lethal weapon during the failed heist, which occured at around 2 a.m.

Shooting at L.A.-area clinic: Nurse wounded, patient in custody
A man was arrested Monday on suspicion of shooting a nurse inside a mental health urgent care facility in Willowbrook, officials said.Vincent Heard, 20, is suspected of shooting a nurse during a medical evaluation at the Exodus Foundation for Recovery Integrated Clinic in the 12000 block of Wilmington Avenue, across from Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital.

Sheriff's Detective Shoots Dog in Lawndale
A Los Angeles County sheriff's detective shot and killed a dog after the animal attacked him in Lawndale Monday night, according to officials.The detective was working on an investigation about 9:30 p.m. in the 4600 block of 170th Street when the bullmastiff went after him, officials with the sheriff's department said.
