LA Police Commission approves proposals to improve transparency, use of force training
The Los Angeles Police Commission told the LAPD on Tuesday to share more information with the public about shootings by officers, describing increased transparency as vital to building trust after fatal police shootings in the city and across the country. The union representing rank-and-file officers accused the commission of avoiding more pressing issues facing the LAPD — such as keeping an adequate number of officers working in patrol or reducing the ongoing uptick in violent crime — and instead folding to pressure from police critics. “The commission has become nothing more than a group of pandering apologists in support of misinformed professional protesters,” said Lou Turriaga, a Director with the Los Angeles Police Protective League.

Man Arrested in Fatal Shooting of Palm Springs Officers Set to Be Charged With Murder
The planned arraignment Tuesday of a Palm Springs man accused of fatally shooting two police officers and wounding a third has been postponed, according to prosecutors. John Hall, a spokesman for the Riverside district attorney's office, said shooting suspect John Felix, 26, will be formally charged Tuesday afternoon, but that his arraignment won't occur until Thursday. Hall said prosecutors are still finalizing the details of the specific charges.

Police: Man Who Fired At Officers Arrested At End Of Pursuit In Riverside
A man was taken in custody Tuesday after firing shots at officers at the end of a pursuit that began with a report the vehicle reported to have been involved in drive-by-type shooting last month, authorities said. An officer flagged down by a person who said a white van was involved in a shooting led officers on a relatively brief pursuit, which ended near Van Buren Boulevard at Indiana Avenue in Riverside, Corona police said.

Two Men Arrested After Allegedly Kidnapping, Raping Sheriff's Deputy in Kansas
Two men suspected of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a sheriff's deputy in Johnson County, Kansas, last week have been charged, prosecutors announced Tuesday. William Luth, 24, and Brady Newman-Caddell, 21, both face charges of aggravated kidnapping, two counts of rape each and aggravated sodomy in connection to the case, according to KTLA sister station WDAF in Kansas City.

2 shot on bench in West LA's Del Rey neighborhood
Two men were in stable condition today after being wounded by gunfire in Del Rey. The shooting was reported around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Marionwood and Braddock drives, the Los Angeles Police Department said. The victims were seated at a bench when three males approached on foot and shot them, police said. They were taken to a hospital with wounds to their arms and legs. No information was immediately available on the gunmen or their motive.

On August 21, 2016, around 9:25 p.m., the victim was involved in a 3-vehicle traffic accident on La Brea Avenue, north of Olympic Boulevard. The former chief of police at the Port of Los Angeles was sentenced to two years in federal prison Tuesday for concealing over $1.1 million in income and making false statements to the FBI. Ronald Boyd, 58, of Torrance, was also ordered to serve three years' supervised release and pay $305,054 in restitution, according Thom Mrozek, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office.

Family members pin down convicted sex offender who sneaked into girls' bedroom window
The screams of two girls led family members to a convicted sex offender, who had sneaked into the teenagers' bedroom and tried to sexually assault them, police said Tuesday. Derek Lamont Fowler, 30, of Los Angeles was charged Tuesday in connection with burglary and lewd and lascivious acts with a child, according to San Bernardino County Superior Court records.

Mexican authorities arrested a reputed gang member Sunday in connection with the shooting death of a U.S. Marine outside a strip club earlier this year in San Bernardino, police said. Arturo Perez Medina, 22, a U.S. Citizen, was found hiding in a home in Tijuana and taken into custody by Mexican Federal Police, according to the San Bernardino Police Department. He was booked on suspicion of murder in the death of Douglas Rivas-Rauda, police said.

Two top shareholders for Backpage surrender to authorities in pimping investigation
The two controlling shareholders of the controversial ad website Backpage.com surrendered Monday to authorities, according to Kristin Ford, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Justice. Michael Lacey and James Larkin were charged Sept. 26 with conspiracy to commit pimping in connection with their ownership of Backpage, according to a criminal complaint filed by Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris in Sacramento County Superior Court.

GA officer saves baby's life, becomes her godfather
Sheriff Lieutenant Kenneth Knox received a call last month for a choking child. “I was dispatched to a residence to a child choking, it was this beautiful little princess,” Knox wrote on his Facebook page. “She was turning blue and fading fast. Mom and dad tried CPR with no luck and when I arrived she was not breathing.” Knox performed reverse CPR on two-month-old Ma'Yavi Parham and was able to get her breathing again, according to his post.

Fla. officer stops potential mass school shooting
A former Coral Springs High School student was arrested and charged with felony possession of a firearm on school property, possession of a firearm by a minor, trespassing and disrupting a school function after police say he showed up at the school Monday with a loaded gun. Ryan Trollinger, 17, was being held Monday night in a Broward Sheriff's Office juvenile facility, according to Sgt. Carla Kmiotek, a spokeswoman for Coral Springs police.
