POLICE COMMISSION NEWS BRIEFING

At the regularly scheduled meeting on February 26, 2002, Mayor James Hahn, and two Police Commissioners, David Cunningham III and Silvia Saucedo, made a presentation on proposed changes to the Senior Lead Officer (SLO) program.

The changes included:

Full reinstatement of the SLO program


Flexible work schedule, a 5/40 or 4/10, for SLOs


Enhanced SLO communication with patrol officers in the Basic Car Unit


Increased training including a phase in training period between outgoing and incoming SLOs following a promotion or transfer


Adequate office space, equipment and communication services


Assigning a Commanding Officer to oversee community-policing Department-wide Area Summits with elected officials' community organizations, associations, and City agencies participating


Formation of Police and Community Collaborative Teams (PACCT)

The Department was directed to incorporate the policy recommendations into a plan and report back to the Police Commission within 30 days for approval.
