Re: Mayor Villaraigosa's Annual Community Budget Day

Dear Community Leaders,

Mayor Villaraigosa's Annual Community Budget Day will take place on Saturday September 9, 2006.  Budget Day kicks off the opportunity for Neighborhood Councils to have a voice in City of Los Angeles budget decisions.

On Budget Day the Mayor outlines a vision for Los Angeles in the coming year and how the budget can help achieve that vision.   Neighborhood Councils and other community members are invited to hear and discuss how they can partner in the decisions that affect their communities and LA'S future.

Neighborhood Councils are groups of people that, once certified by the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners, will elect or select their own leaders, determine their own agendas, and set their own boundaries.  Neighborhood Councils are designed to give stakeholders a more effective way to improve the quality of life in their neighborhoods.

Community Based Organizations are encouraged to attend. This will be a favorable occasion for your agency and others to meet Neighborhood Council representatives, communicate the community goals you have in common, and form suitable alliances.

Before the event, please call our office to inform us whether you will make a brief presentation (1-2 minutes) about your organization.  You may contact Anataly De Jesus at 213-485-1360.  Prepare a brief summary of your key community issues that may be impacted by the City Budget.  Bring contact information, i.e. flyers and business cards to give out to Neighborhood Council leaders, community residents and other organizations.

The event will take place at the Los Angeles City Hall, City Council Chambers and Rotunda, third floor.  Registration will begin at 8:00 am.  The program will begin at 9:00 am and the day will conclude at approximately noon.   A continental breakfast will be served and free parking is available.

We recommend that you RSVP on-line by visiting the DONE website at www.lacityneighborhoods.org.  Translation will be provided if requested at least 72 hours in advance of the event.  If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Anataly De Jesus at 213-485-1360
