City Clerk - Election Division Updates 2010 Neighborhood Council Election Website
The City Clerk - Election Division is currently preparing for the 2010 Neighborhood Council (NC) Elections.  The NC Election Unit website now includes the "Ensuring the Effectiveness and Success of Your NC's 2010 Elections" presentation and attendee survey, including results.  The website also has an updated list of FAQ's and a 2008 NC Election archive.  Information regarding the NC Election Development Group will be added to the site as it becomes available.  Please see the City Clerk - Election Division website for more information.

Federal Funds Available for Survivors of the California Wildfires
Federal funds are available to help people and communities recover from the wildfires in Southern California.  Assistance include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.  Federal assistance to the City of Los Angeles can include payment of up to 75 percent of the approved costs for hazard mitigation projects to prevent or reduce long-term risk to life and property from natural or technological disasters.  Los Angeles residents and business owners can begin the disaster application process by registering online at www.fema.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired. Additionally, the City of Los Angeles, in coordination with the Los Angeles County Operational Area and the State Office of Emergency Services, have opened a Local Assistance Center (LAC) for the victims of the "Sayre (Sylmar) Fire."  The Local Assistance Center will serve as a one-stop resource for disaster relief services, including information on how to replace records lost in the fire, file insurance claims and apply for assistance and housing. It will provide a single place for victims of the wildfire to get help in starting their recovery process.  The Local Assistance Center is located at Sylmar Recreation Center, 13109 Borden Ave. Sylmar, CA 91342.

Time is Running Out for the Community Budget Survey!
Please take a moment to go online and complete the City's  Community Budget Survey .  Community participation in the budget process is especially important at this time because the City is challenged by many issues, including the uncertain impact of the turbulent national economy, expected revenue shortfalls, and increased service demands.

We hope to have a minimum of 3000 budget survey submissions from Neighborhood Council members, community based organizations leaders, and stakeholders throughout Los Angeles.  NC's should set aside the time to schedule a "Budget Survey Presentation" for their Project Coordinator and Budget Representative in their December meetings as well as make the survey and website link available to their stakeholders.

All budget surveys for the City's 2009-2010 fiscal year are due by January 12, 2009.  The results of the survey will be presented at a regional budget meeting open to the public on January 31, 2009 at City Hall.  You can access the budget survey at www.lacityneighborhoods.com in English  or Spanish

For more information or if you need assistance with the online survey, please contact your NC Project Coordinator at (213) 485-1360.  As always, it's your leadership and your interest in the budget process that will take us over the top to reach the budget survey goals!
