Dear Friend of the LAFD:

In this issue...
Special Events this Week

- Three "End of Summer" Events for the Whole Family
- Adopt-A-Fire-Station
- You Did Not Forget

Please join us this week for a trio of special public events as the men and women of your Los Angeles Fire Department salute the end of Summer.

First...

~ FDNY CROSS-COUNTRY BIKE TOUR ~

Things start off with a bang in sunny Los Angeles this TUESDAY, as we host the send-off for our FDNY colleagues who are commencing a Cross Country Bicycle Tour. You can learn more, follow their daily progress or even sponsor a rider by visiting the website below:

~ CODE 3 SALUTE TO LOCAL HEROES IN WOODLAND HILLS ~

If you've been around the Fire Service long enough to become a "Fire Buff" - or know of one, you've probably heard about Code 3 Collectibles, the limited edition scale-model emergency vehicles, like the ones seen here:

What you may not have realized is that these world-renowned artisans are headquartered in suburban Los Angeles. This coming SATURDAY offers a *must-attend* event for anyone wanting to see or photograph an astounding (and I do mean astounding) multi-agency display and demonstration of real emergency apparatus. Our friends at Code 3 Collectibles will host dozens of full-sized Fire ngines, Police Cars, Motorcycles and Helicopters in a "Salute to Local Heroes". This is a free event for the entire family. We hope to see you there.

~ BENEFIT FOR OUR BRAVEST STREET FESTIVAL ~

Food, music, games and more are just part of the fun on SATURDAY afternoon, as LAFD supporters in Sherman Oaks host the 4th Annual Benefit for our Bravest Street Festival. Bring your appetite (and some film in your camera) for this free celebrity studded event, which last year raised more than $34,000 for the Adopt-A-Fire-Station Program in the San Fernando Valley.

~ ADOPT-A-FIRE-STATION ~

Through creative partnership and spirited teamwork, Adopt-A-Fire-Station continues to make a difference in Neighborhood Fire Stations throughout Los Angeles:

~ YOU DID NOT FORGET - NOR WILL WE ~

"We Will Never Forget".

Four strong words that are never spoken in haste by the men and women of America's Fire Service. For the many of you who stood beside us then and since, kindly allow me to offer our collective thanks for remembering the courage, honor and sacrifice of those who died in New York, Pennsylvania and Northern Virginia on September 11, 2001.

Please know that you and your loved ones are always welcome to join us anytime for quiet reflection and remembrance at the World Trade Center Memorial in Los Angeles:

** Coming later this month: A detailed look at LAFD Air Operations, including a sneak peek at some aircraft concepts under consideration.
