LA Community Policing is assisting in the planning of the Sheriff's Community Day 2006. These annual events have become extremely popular. Over 30,000 people will attended!

Sheriff Leroy D. Baca serves as the host of the Community Day activities, which are coordinated by a dedicated staff at Power of Love World Ministries, led by Bishop Edward R. Turner, and the Sheriff's Clergy Council.

LACP's founder, Bill Murray, has been an active member of the Sheriff's Clergy Council for several years.

What is Community Day?

Community Day is an annual event established to share with our community many of the necessities of life they are lacking-namely food and clothing, and to also provide available resources demonstrating a mutual responsiblity and societal interdependence for the less fortunate. But Community Day is more than that!

Community Day also brings established entrepreneurs offering a myriad of goods and services to this annual event-some offering automobiles, employment, health care and much, much more. Community Day has become a highly anticipated event in the community.

We are proud to say that Community Day serves the underrepresented segment of our population in a variety of ways. During each Community Day, families are allowed to receive as much food as they can carry away, along with new clothing, shoes, health care services, and employment opportunities.

Community Day is also a venue for entrepreneurs to showcase their goods and services to the community and to network with one another. Employers and prospective employees are brought together with on-site interviews and job offers. We are proud to have 'renters' come to the information seminar on home buying and leave away as homeowners! As the young people started out 'serving the less fortunate' they remain a vital part of Community Day!

Our youth now have their own open forum where they can hear keynote messages geared for their age group and an open forum to express their concerns and receive vital information as well as showcase their talents and gifts in a wholesome and positive environment.

Please check out the Community Day website below.

And don't miss the information about the 6th Annual Multi-Faith Prayer Breakfast, also being held on January 14, 2006! Seating is limited for this popular event (only $20 per person) so be sure to reserve a place early.

The Multi-Faith Prayer Breakfast, a segment of Community Day, was birthed as a result of a need to bring about healing to our communities through clergy and community leaders. In the past, the Community Day Prayer Breakfast was attended largely by Christians, which represented in part the diversity and complexity of the community.

The Prayer Breakfast doors needed to be opened to a larger audience. It was the input of Sheriff Leroy D. Baca in his genius that has helped us to open the door of the Clergy Breakfast in order to bring it to a Multi-Faith level. The ideas of Sheriff Baca have proven to be the best things ever in building unity throughout the County of Los Angeles. We shall continue on this effort, which has been the catalyst that is bringing people together from all walks of life. A special Thank you to our Sheriff.

On September 11, 2001, the United States was hit with the most horrific terrorist attack in its history. Thousands of people lost their lives; families across this nation were devastated by its effect. The need to unite and come together was even greater. Everyone was being judged. People were being attacked for no reason other than they appeared to be of Middle Eastern descent. Fear had set in the hearts of the people. Something needed to be done openly and from a united front; therefore, the expanding of the Community Day vision has encompassed the Multi-Faith Prayer Breakfast.

Through the joint efforts of Sheriff Leroy D. Baca, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Multi-Faith Clergy Councils and the Helping Our People Excel for Life Foundation (H.O.P.E. for Life Foundation), we hosted several Multi-Faith Prayer Breakfast. This event is attended by representatives from all religious sects: Jewish, Muslim, Sikhs, Buddhists, Christians, Scientology, and others. Each group laid aside their personal beliefs and focused on the task at hand—unity.

The goal of the Multi-Faith Prayer Breakfast is to strengthen and unite all people regardless of race, color, creed or religion.
